Renewable Energy Companies
Toronto's TransformTO Net Zero Strategy

Toronto City Council has adopted an ambitious strategy to reduce community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to zero by 2040 – ten years earlier than previously proposed. The City's 2040 goal is one of the most aggressive in North America. To reach this goal, Ontario is encouraging the installation of solar with many grants and rebates now available.

GoSolar Toronto strives to be one of Toronto's best renewable energy companies. We're helping Toronto reach its goal by installing solar panels all over the GTA. Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. It's a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic, free-standing CN Tower. With a population of around 3 million, there is lots of potential to make the world a greener place with solar energy.

SECTION 3

5 Benefits of Solar Energy

Solar power works by converting energy from the sun into power. When sunlight shines on a solar panel, energy from the sun rays are absorbed by the PV cells in the panel. This energy generates electrical charges that move in response to an internal electrical field in the cell, resulting in the flow of electricity. Solar panels installation provides many benefits for the environment as well as homeowners. Each kilowatt-hour (kWh) of solar energy generated will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions such as CO2 as well as other harmful pollutants. It also increases home value, reduces energy bills, has little to no maintenance costs, helps people be self sufficient and much more! With the help of solar energy, the world is a better place.

Solar Energy Toronto Ontario

Why you need solar energy in Toronto GTA

Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available. The sun provides more than enough energy to meet the whole world's energy needs, and unlike fossil fuels, it won't run out anytime soon. By utilizing solar panels on your Toronto home or business, you’ll be able to reduce your carbon footprint and lower your utility costs over time. Toronto is in a grid parity province, making solar power cheaper than the residential utility rates. As of Oct 2022, the average cost of solar panels in Toronto is $2.33 per watt making a typical 6000 watt (6 kW) solar system $8,980 after claiming the Canada Greener Homes Grant now available.

Does it make sense to go solar in Toronto ON?

Ontario ticks off most, if not all of the factors that make going solar lucrative - it is one of the best provinces when it comes to solar resources. With the rising cost of electricity in Ontario, there has never been a better time to start investing in Ontario solar panels. The southern half of Ontario, where the majority of the population lives, receives more than enough sunlight throughout the year for solar panels to be effective.

Carbon reduction, self-sufficiency, lower utility bills, and increased property value are some of the main advantages of getting solar panel installation in Toronto Ontario. You won't have to rely on a third party for your energy, and you'll have access to nearly limitless energy from a sustainable source. You'll also see an increase in the value of your home, especially if you plan to sell in a few years after your solar investment has begun to pay off.

Benefits of Going Solar

01 Carbon Reduction

Solar panels reduce your carbon footprint since they produce 5-10 times less carbon emissions per unit of energy relative than coal or natural gas.

02 Self Sufficiency

With residential solar, homeowners benefit from a reliable, clean and sustainable energy source. You don’t need to rely on third-party entity for your energy.

03 Increase Property Value and Resell Rate

Solar panels increasing property value up to 3-4% and can make your home sell 20% faster than homes without solar energy.

04 Protect from Rising Electricity Costs

Electricity rates are rising 5-7% annually in Toronto every year. Protect your home against the ever increasing hydro bills.

05 Increased Resiliency

During power outages, solar panels can still provide power. Sunlight-generated electricity can be stored and discharged without the need for fuel deliveries.

Solar Power Greater Toronto Area

Renewable Energy for a Sustainable World

Switching to solar energy requires an initial investment in both equipment and installation. However, after that initial outlay, the only recurring cost is the electricity you use beyond what your panels generate. Assuming your solar system is the appropriate size for your home and is properly installed and maintained, homeowners can expect to see long-term savings on electricity bills and a return on investment in as little as 7 years.

As of 2022, the Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from BMO is 5.00% for 10 years. That means your solar panels installation from GoSolar Toronto would be a BETTER financial investment than investing in GICs. All while doing a huge part in going green and helping the environment. It’s a Win-Win! To find out what the actual cost will be for your property, get in touch with our team and we'd be glad to help.

How much does solar cost in Toronto Ontario?

The cost of installing solar panels Toronto is variable and requires an estimate for each property. Toronto has lower rates than the provincial average!

The overall cost will be determined by the size, pitch, direction and condition of your roof, as well as whether any electrical system upgrades are required. Aside from the cost of the solar panels themselves, there are additional costs such as inverters, electrical equipment, labour, and permits. The cost will also depend on local solar incentives and rebates.

Based on information in Toronto Ontario, solar advisors have come up with an estimate on the average residential solar installation cost. The typical Toronto household consumes approximately 9,000 kWhs of electricity per year. Therefore, an average Toronto homeowner would need to install a 7,500-watt solar array to offset 100% of their electrical consumption. Currently, the average cost of solar panels in Toronto is $2.33 per watt making a 7,500-watt solar system cost around $17,475. Taking into account current available $5,000 rebates from Canada Greener Homes Grant, your installed cost reduces to only $12,475 giving you very good ROI on your investment.

HELP allows you to repay the loan through instalments on your property tax bill, and the loan can be paid off at any time without penalty. Eligible properties include detached, semi-detached, row or townhouses, duplexes, triplexes, and properties with up to three floors and fewer than six units. Strata condo properties are currently ineligible.

City of Toronto – Energy Retrofit Loan (ERL) Program

The government is also providing grants for climate resiliency, including a $1,000 grant for batteries connected to photovoltaic systems that provide standby power for homes. These grants are available across Canada on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more on the Greener Homes Grant website.

What solar incentives and rebates are available in Ontario?

Solar incentives in Canada could help you save thousands of dollars off the cost of your solar installation through solar financing and subsidies.

Ontario only offers net-metering to its residents and no other solar rebates. Net metering allows Ontarians to send excess electricity to the distribution system for a credit toward energy costs. The net-metering initiative applies to renewable energy generators up to 500kW or less. Strict rules make it difficult and expensive to connect solar power systems over 10 kW to the grid in Ontario, meaning parts of Ontario are currently "grid constrained." The average Toronto homeowner will not exceed 10 kW and therefore will not be subject these constraints.
